Overview

The Ajvir Singh Sandhu Leadership Foundation has been working with Riverside School over the past seven years on a mentoring programme which aims to inspire, motivate and encourage individuals in years 12 and 13 to achieve their academic goals.

What does it involve?

Each year the Foundation selects a group of the most self motivated individuals to join the cohort. Before the mentoring programme officially begins, AjvirLF clearly outlines what being a member of the Foundation Family means for the students and hosts a session to launch the programme. This creates the opportunity for the mentees to establish a good working relationship with one another and creates a support network amongst foundation beneficiaries.

During the first session, mentors clearly identify the areas in which the mentees most need assistance and set reasonable goals which are reviewed throughout the year. Face to face sessions then happen monthly with mentees being able to rely on their mentors via digital platforms to ensure open and consistent dialogue.

Results?

One of the key challenges most of the young people face is a lack of confidence. At the end of each academic year, we ask the students to talk about what the mentoring has meant to them and why the incoming year 12s should take the opportunity to apply for the programme. Each individual participates in putting the assembly together and the ability to stand up and speak in front of an audience demonstrates the positive impact which the Foundation has had on each student in less than 12 months.

Beneficiary Feedback

“The Ajvir Singh Sandhu Leadership Foundation has helped me better determine the path I need to follow in order to reach the targets and goals which I have set myself. I now have a clear and unequivocal idea about how I will achieve my goals. This due to the key information and support provided by my mentor, amongst many other things.”
